Dilemmas in design abound, the classic issues are constant restructuring disconnected from strategy and difficulties in involving people for fear they will protect their own jobs. The most liberating thing we were ever told was ‘every structure will create problems – there is no perfect structure’. We believe the art of good design work is seeing beyond structure and looking for the answers in processes and other lateral mechanisms.
The VISTA approach to organisational design has its root in STS and Dick and Emily Axelrod’s Conference Model which we have combined with Jay Galbraith’s approach to design using his Star Model as an interactive diagnostic and tool to shape design work.
