Core Principles
Principles are not methods or answers, theories or ideas. They are a means whereby we can develop organisational and personal integrity. If we can be clear about these guiding principles, our foundations, we can work confidently, individually and collectively, and know that we have a basis for matching our actions with our beliefs.
The principles we use and what they mean in designing a meeting are:
|
Empowerment, inclusion and co-creation |
| Developing commitment to and alignment with a shared purpose and future direction by engaging people in ways that matter to them and in which they make a valuable contribution. |
|
Understanding the whole |
| Building a common understanding of strategic information for people at all levels. This informs their discretion so that they can develop a greater understanding of how the whole affects their part, and make wise decisions, individually and collectively. |
|
Future focus in real time |
| Living in the future now. Simultaneous discovery, planning and implementation of individual, group and organisation or community changes. Decisions and actions taken based on a collective "image of potential" for the future. |
|
Reality is key driver |
| Anticipating and responding to the sometimes conflicting realities, assumptions, and 'undsicussables' which exist in the internal and external environment, by seeking out and making sense of emerging issues and opportunities. |
|
Fairness, equity and community |
| Fostering learning, growth and spirit by developing an environment where people come together as part of something larger than themselves that they can create and believe in, where everyone has equal responsibility for contributing to the whole, and equal opportunity to become involved to the extent they desire. |
Purpose
In addition, and as important is purpose. The planning work for a meeting needs to focus most of its time and energy in getting clear about the desired outcomes of the work together and the of the conference. Having a clear purpose is essential to success and determines what will be done and how. Purpose will drive the design work and determine who and how many people need to participate.
